October Newsletter from www.MusiciansContact.com The Source For Jobs Since 1969 news@MusiciansContact.com 818-888-7879 Sterling Howard, Founder/Owner

Need a player for a gig? Click “I have a job to offer” on our homepage. Need a gig yourself? Click “I’m an individual seeking work” on our homepage.

Hello! To sum up the last newsletter, we want to emphasize that this is YOUR newsletter, an outlet for you to express your opinions and comments on any aspect of the music business. This letter reaches around 15,000 musicians, so if you have something on your mind, you now have a voice. Send it to us and we`ll include it in the next edition. Submit at: news@MusiciansContact.com Subject: News, Comments, etc.

Light Hearted Department:

Ok folks, we are now starting the section that we spoke of briefly in the last newsletter. Reach back into your memory and send us a story or experience about any of the following categories. The best will be printed in the next newsletter for all to read,(and laugh). Here are the 6 official categories:

1. Most Unusual Gig: This can be a job featuring you playing with a group, OR can feature your entire group. In any case, it's gotta be....unusual.

2. Worst Gig Ever: This can be your personal worst gig or your entire band's worst gig.

3. Best Gig Ever: Self explanatory. Go ahead, but keep it honest!

4. Weirdest Audition: Again, this can be you auditioning for a group or your entire band auditioning for something, but it must be....weird.

5. Closest Call To Fame: Most everyone has a story on how they got aced out of fame or fortune.

6. Bad/Best Musician Joke: You`ve heard plenty. Send us your newest or favorite.

This section will be an ongoing newsletter feature, so if you can't think of anything right now, e-mail us when you feel inspired. Submit at: news@MusiciansContact.com Subject: Worst Gig, Joke, etc.

What will the winners receive? We are setting up an all expenses paid vacation to Uranus but the details are still being worked out. In the meantime, at least you will get a warm feeling knowing that thousands of musicians will be laughing.

A Bit More Serious Department:

We've been getting a number of inquiries as to how long the job listings are posted on our site and how we know when the job is filled. Here`s how it works:

When a band leader enters a request for a player for a job, the ad is canceled automatically after 30 days, although the band leader has the ability to cancel it sooner if he needs. Depending on the situation, sometimes we have to edit a job listing to run shorter or longer than 30 days (a fill-in job for a date 5 days away is obviously cancelled after 3-4 days).

Two weeks after a normal 30 day run, we usually send the band leader an email asking if the position has been filled. If the answer is negative, the ad is then updated to the top of the current job list. Now you know how our system works.

Speaking of job listings, we get occasional remarks from some musicians listed with us believing there are more gigs on the West Coast than the East Coast. I will explain why it seems this way:

More band leaders and employers know us and use us in the west, simply because we've been here since 1969 and some of these people have used us on and off for many years. We are "newer" to the East Coast crowd, (our website became interactive just over 3 years ago), so that's when we started attracting job listings nationwide.

The fact is that there are still more part time and full time jobs on the Eastern seaboard and Southern states and midwest than there are in the west. But remember that some band leaders and employers in these areas aren't familiar with our service yet, so it APPEARS that there are more gigs available in the west.

Hey, we've always been a free service to bands who are offering a position, ("Don't bite the hand that feeds"), so if you need someone, log on and enter a free ad.

If you`ve never been a member with us and are wondering what all this talk is about, go to our homepage and click "Job Samples" to get more info. The samples aren`t always right up to date, but they`ll give you a good idea of job listings we've received in the past.

And for fun, click "Famous Clients" to read a history lesson and some humorous stories about our illustrious past.

Hope you like this letter, because I guarantee you the next one will be longer! Keep in touch and let us know what you`re thinking.
